Newport Bay Olympic Torch Festival

25-27th May, 2012.

A “Once in a Lifetime” occasion with the
Olympic Torch passing through Newport.

With the Olympic Torch being run through only three places in Pembrokeshire, Newport is an ideal place to come and see this unique event. To celebrate the occasion, Newport is pushing the boat out with a festival of fun, entertainment and sporting activities for everyone.

7.00pm OLYMPIC QUIZ, Newport Boat Club, join a team of four

Saturday 26 May

10.00am 5km MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE, Rugby Field

11.30am 1,000m KAYAK RACE

& KAYAK v LONGBOAT v SURF SKI CHALLENGE, the Boat Club

1.30pm 8km ROAD CYCLE TIME TRIAL, register Rugby Field, start Dinas 2.00pm

4.00pm 4km FUN RUN round Newport Torch Festival Course, Rugby Field

Sunday 27 May

10.00am SCHOOLS TORCH RELAY starts Pottery, down Parrog Road, along Estuary path to Everything on the Rugby/School Field

10.30am  LIGHTING OF THE TORCH

10.40am  50m Dash  11.00am Sack Races
11.20am  Three Legged Races 11.40am Static Long Jump
12.00pm  100m Races 12.20pm Limbo “Low” Jump

 

12.00pm Tennis Knockabout starts
12.30 pm Newport 10km Race (10th Anniversary)
12.45pm  Adult + Child 100m Relay Race
All morning Dog Ball Throwing, Rugby Ball Target Passes,
Timed Obstacle Course, Face Painting, Bouncy Castle
1.00pm Barnardo’s Super Heroes Big Toddle

1.00pm Tug of War – “club/pub” teams and free-for-all

2.00pm Prizes by Morris Evans 1956 Empire Games Torch Bearer
2.30pm Move to Olympic Torch route
3.09pm PASSAGE OF OLYMPIC TORCH, main road

Rugby/School Field

4.00pm MASS 4km WALK/RACE, led by Gillian George with her torch

6.00pm MASS (BEACH) VOLLEYBALL

7.00pm NEWPORT TORCH PARTY Live bands, Music, Dancing, BBQ, Bar

TORCHLIGHT CONGA followed by FIREWORKS DISPLAY


Admission to evening event by commemorative T shirt,

on sale all day. Kids £4, Adults £5
