First Responders are volunteers who live or work within a community and have been trained to attend certain emergency 999 calls by The Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust.
First Responders provide emergency first aid until an ambulance arrives and are therefore extremely important to a rural community.

The volunteers are trained to administer basic first aid, oxygen therapy, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of a defibrillator.
Funds have been raised for 2 new defibrillators and fund raising for a third defibrillator and special kit bags etc is ongoing. Newport Area First Responders have teams in Nevern and Brynberian and it is hoped to raise and train 2 new teams for Newport itself in the New Year. More volunteers are urgently needed now and more funds need to be raised.
