MEALS ON WHEELS

"Meals on wheels" in the Newport area is organised by the Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) and is available 3 times a week – Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays - to residents who have difficulty with shopping, carrying food home or cooking for themselves.

Communities served include Nevern and Moylegrove, Dinas and Brynberian and places between.

Menus are designed to provide a good, balanced diet and choices cover cultural as well as dietary needs, including special requirements like soft foods or diabetic meals.

The meal is very reasonably priced (costing £3.10 pence at the moment)

Drivers are instructed to ensure that the older person is safe, well and secure. This home-delivered meals service provides friendly social contact for those who may be confined to the house, and a regular check that they are safe and well. In case of any doubt, the organisers will contact next of kin where applicable.

The local Newport organiser is Sue Wells (Telephone 01239 820334) and the Pembrokeshire RVS Meals on Wheels manager is Simon Rickard (telephone 01437 762911)

RVS stands for the Royal Voluntary Service (formerly the Women's Royal Voluntary Service) which organises Meals on Wheels amongst other services in Pembrokeshire (Telephone Susan Meister 07714898608 for general enquiries)
